NEW  CENTRE  FOR  PACIFIC  STUDIES  AT  ST ANDREWS

Received 26 March 2008 from:

Professor Christina Toren

Department of Anthropology

University of St Andrews

71 North St

St Andrews, Fife, KY16 9AJ

Scotland

"This is just to let you know before the news gets out that St Andrews is about to launch a new Centre for Pacific Studies (CPS) and a new taught postgraduate MRes in Social Anthropology with Pacific Studies.

With myself, Tony Crook and Adam Reed here at St Andrews, this was an obvious step and we hope to make the most of the conjunction of our research interests, and also of the opportunity provided by the Leverhulme Trust to have Jimmy Weiner joining us as a Visiting Professor from 2008-10.

We very much hope the Centre's activities will further augment and contribute to the opportunities for research in Pacific anthropology, and that it will provide a base for hosting the 8th ESfO conference in 2010.

Further details of the CPS & MRes can be found here:

Please do pass this message on to colleagues and students who may be interested. Many thanks.

Warm regards,

Christina Toren

Director, Centre for Pacific Studies"
